Bonboniera Has A New Home

After thirty years in business we have decided to go back to our roots, which is a business without a retail outlet.

With ever increasing rents, and a noticeable decrease in passing trade, it was getting uneconomical to keep a large shop open.

Buying habits have changed drastically over the past couple of years with UK online retailers taking a huge proportion of retail sales away from the island. This affects all local retailers not just us.

So we now run the business entirely from our home office, and a small showroom and display area on site.

All of our hire items, of which we have many thousands, now live in a secure, dry off site storage area ready for us to supply them to a venue at any time.

Please note that our core business has not changed in any way, we are still one of Guernsey’s leading wedding, party and event planners.

To coincide with the move we have rebranded the event planning side of the business as Creative Events, and launched our dedicated event planning website.

More expansion is planned for the future with dedicated wedding and party planning sites, our popular Candy Cart Buffet site (these are simply awesome party add-ons), and a soon to follow Linen Hire site.

Also the Guernsey balloon delivery side of the business has expanded with a new range of photo and personalised balloon deliveries available to you.

Due to now having reduced operating expenses we now offer free delivery on any order over £15 in value (£5 delivery charge on orders below this)

You can still call us and place your order as before and we will make sure that it is ready for collection… Or we can deliver it to you.

So despite some rumours doing the rounds, we are here, expanding our services, and offering an even bigger service than before.

To keep up with all the changes you can either join our newsletter or follow us on Facebook

Wedding Decor For Hire

Bonboniera and Creative Events have a large range of hire items available to make your wedding day even more special, from chair covers, sashes, table runners and balloon decor all the way up to a huge 6 metre by 3 metre Starlight Curtain which makes a fantastic backdrop to your top table.

Starlight CurtainThe Starlight Curtain is made of the highest quality materials and uses fibre optic lights powered from a single 50 watt light source. This ensures that there are no electrical connections running inside the curtain which makes it very safe.

The curtain is suspended from it’s own heavy duty aluminium support poles and is delivered anywhere in Guernsey, installed and tested before the function,  and then removed after the event by our own qualified staff.

We recommend that you reserve the Starlight Curtain as soon as possible as it gets booked up fast.

Baby Cake Or Nappy Cake

Babycakes or Nappy Cakes are a great and unique idea brought to Guernsey by Bonboniera.

They are nappies,  shaped into a layered cake with baby gifts on each layer and topped off with a cute bear.  You can incorporate bibs, baby brushes, teethers, soothers, baby safe toys, talc, shampoo in fact the gifts are endless.

Bonboniera Baby cakes say that you have gone that extra mile to find a gift that is a one off, and perfect for that special delivery.

If you want something different from the standard nappy cake then we can make one to your specification, you can say exactly what you would like in them, what colour you would like and how many layers.

Each comes with foil balloons, and a card and can be delivered anywhere on Guernsey.

Happy Birthday To You

There is one thing and one thing only that announces to
everyone it is time for cake, and it is my birthday. The
words are simple and everyone who can speak English knows
the words, from a toddler to someone who is 100 years old.

Comprised of 4 bars, 16 words each the tune is simple and
the meaning is deep.

In fact, according to the Guinness Book of World Records,
Happy Birthday is the most popular song in the English
Language.

And although it has been translated into many different
languages, it is usually sung in English, even in countries
that dont speak English as their primary language.

The Hill sisters composed the tune, -Happy Birthday To
You-, in 1893. Originally the schoolteachers wrote the tune
to a song entitles -Good Morning To You- and was sung to
the classroom every morning.

But the version we know was copyrighted in 1935 and the
copyright is scheduled to expire in 2030. In fact,
technically it is illegal to publicly perform -Happy
Birthday To You- unless royalties are paid to the Summy
Company and its owner Warner Chappell who bought the
company in 1990.

The value of the song itself is estimated at $5 million. It
is still unclear who wrote the words to the song though.

Because of some strict copyright issues, filmmakers rarely
show the full content of the song being performed in any
movies. This is why sometimes you will see the
public-domain song -For Hes A Jolly Good Fellow- performed
instead, or the song being removed entirely.

A mother’s love determines how
We love ourselves and others.
There is no sky we’ll ever see
Not lit by that first love.

Stripped of love, the universe
Would drive us mad with pain;
But we are born into a world
That greets our cries with joy.

How much I owe you for the kiss
That told me who I was!
The greatest gift–a love of life–
Lay laughing in your eyes.

Because of you my world still has
The soft grace of your smile;
And every wind of fortune bears
The scent of your caress.

Go on Spoil your mum this Mothers Day.

Friends are like Balloons

Friends are like balloons; once you let them go, you might not get them back.

Sometimes we get so busy with our own lives and problems that we may not even notice that we’ve let them fly away.

Sometimes we are so caught up in who’s right and who’s wrong that we forget what’s right and wrong.

Sometimes we just don’t realize what real friendship means until it is too late..

I don’t want to let that happen so I’m gonna tie you to my heart so I never lose you.

Destination Wedding Etiquette

Destination weddings are very popular.  In fact, in some ways, etiquette rules have not yet caught up to the destination theme at all!  Yet, when it comes to this type of wedding style, you really do have a lot to think about before you go off to get married.

Destination weddings are weddings in which you will travel to a location other than any place near to you, to be married.  These weddings are common in resorts and other fabulous places.  Yet, although they are so popular, that does not mean that they are the best choice for everyone, especially those with a large family that is expecting a large celebration of the wedding.

While the ultimate decision about a destination wedding is all up to you, it is common practice to insure that the wedding satisfies everyone’s needs.  Here are some basic tips that we will expand on later.

Tip One:

Do not expect the world to follow you to your destination wedding.  Not many of your guests will be able to afford it, find travel arrangements or get off of work to go.  So, expect for some not to be able to come with you for your wedding.

Tip Two:

Send out invitations and ‘hold the date’ cards to your guest well in advance.  Several months should be given if you except them to come so that they can get the proper travel arrangements made including the necessary legal documents if it is out of the country.

Tip Three:

Do something for those that can not make it to your wedding but are close enough to you that want to celebrate your wedding with you at home.  For example, you can have your wedding ceremony in Hawaii, but have a reception back at home too for those that could not make it.

Etiquette For The Wedding

There are several things that come into play when it comes to a destination wedding ceremony.  The first is the cost.  Unlike a traditional wedding ceremony, it is not going to fly for the parents to pay for this type of wedding celebration, especially when most are counting on that big wedding to celebrate your marriage.

So, if you plan to have a destination wedding, plan to sit down and talk to those that will be paying for it.  There are many additional costs folded into the wedding itself here.

One benefit to the wedding destination is that most will take care of all of the planning for your wedding for you.  They can help you to make arrangements for the ceremony, lodging, foods, and even for legal requirements.  This does lessen the amount of planning that you will be required to do, but it may also limit you to what you can do yourself.  Depending on the level of comfort you have in giving someone else the ability to handle your wedding, should be a consideration here.
